Timothy Gospel of Love

Bible Matters 484: Timothy Gospel of Love

Timothy was a disciple that walked with Paul.  He is referred to as brother and the beloved son of Paul in four of Paul’s books:  Corinthians, Hebrews, Timothy and Philemon.  The book of Timothy is a letter written by Paul to Timothy.

2 Corinthians 1:1 – Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

Paul, as a pharisee, was versed in all matters of churchianity.  He is the only witness that provided testimony that women are to remain silent in church and not teach God’s gospel.  One witness does not provide the truth in God’s word, as God stated twelve times in the bible, out of the mouth of two or three witnesses you shall know the truth.  In the Jewish law, woman are to be silent in church.  If you are a woman that has been called by God to teach his word, then God is looking for you to share his word to others in truth!  God does not have a law that woman be silent in church, nor did God command women to be silent in church.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 – Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.  And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1 Timothy 2:11-12 – Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

The gospel of Love presented by Paul in Timothy is solid.  Let’s review the Paul’s testimony to Timothy on the gospel of Love.

• Believe in one God – God is King.

1 Timothy 1:13,17 – Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.  Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:1 – Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

• Repent of your sins and surrender to God – Your walk with God begins when you turn from your sinful past and follow after righteousness with a pure heart.

1 Timothy 6:10-11 – For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

2 Timothy 2:19,21-22 – Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.   Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

2 Timothy 2:25-26 – In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

• Judge no one – Judge your pure walk against God’s word.  God is the judge.   When you witness, just plant the seed by spreading God’s word and gospel of love in truth.

2 Timothy 4:1 – I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

2 Timothy 4:2-4 – Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

• Love God – When you love God, then you love the things of God in charity, faith and purity.

1 Timothy 1:5 – Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

1 Timothy 5:4 – But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

2 Timothy 2:15-16 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

• Love your Neighbor – When you love others, you are not ashamed of God’s word.  Be willing to share exponentially with your neighbor and with fervent acts of charity.

2 Timothy 1:7-8 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

1 Timothy 1:5 – Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

• Fight the good fight, do the will of God and endure to the end unto eternal life –

1 Timothy 6:12 – Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 – Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high  minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;  That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:18 – And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Believe that God has a plan for you.  Have faith and worship only God.  Do not let any man, any church or any church leader, lead you into believing the Jesus did it all and you do not have to show your faith by doing God’s will.  Do not be deceived.  God is looking for you to go live God’s gospel of Love.

To God be the glory in all you do, Amen.
