The Rod
Against the greatest army at the time,
God used a rod to defeat the Egyptian Army.
Yes, a rod. God used the miracle
of turning the rod into a serpent (i.e. snake) and then back into a rod. Moses did not have a clue as to how God
planned to use that rod, to free the Israelites from Egypt. When you repent and accept God in your life,
you do not have a clue as to how God is going to use you. One thing for sure is
that your walk must be with God. God
cannot use you if you are walking with the devil.
Exodus 4:2-5 – And the LORD said unto
him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he
cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before
it. And the LORD said unto Moses, Put
forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and
caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
From this point forward, Moses did as
commanded by God. There is no doubt that
Moses understood the power of God. God
used that rod to send signs.
Exodus 17:5-6 – And the LORD said unto
Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and
thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold,
I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the
rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And
Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
God ruled the rod that Moses carried! The
rods of man had no power.
Exodus 7:9,11-12 – When Pharaoh shall
speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron,
Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the
sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their
enchantments. For they cast down every
man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.
When God needed the waters to turn into
blood, he commanded Moses to smote the waters.
Exodus 7:20 – And Moses and Aaron did so,
as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were
in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and
all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
When God sent the frogs onto the land, he
did so with the rod.
Exodus 8:5 – And the LORD spake unto
Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams,
over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land
of Egypt.
When God sent the lice onto the land, he
did so with the rod.
Exodus 8:17 – And they did so; for Aaron
stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it
became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice
throughout all the land of Egypt.
When God sent hail onto the land, he did
so with the rod.
Exodus 9:23 – And Moses stretched forth
his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran
along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
When God sent locusts onto the land, he
did so with the rod.
Exodus 10:13 – And Moses stretched forth
his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land
all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind
brought the locusts.
When God moved the waters of the Red Sea,
he did so with the rod.
Exodus 14:16 – But lift thou up thy rod,
and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of
Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
In the wilderness, the Israelis were
thirsty. God spoke unto Moses and told
him to smite / speak to the rock, to bring forth water. Moses used the rod to smote the rock. Water came forth to quench the thirst of the
congregation and the beasts.
Exodus 17:5-6 – And the LORD said unto
Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and
thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon
the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water
out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the
elders of Israel.
Numbers 20:8-13 – Take the rod, and
gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye
unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou
shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the
congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the
Lord, as he commanded him. And Moses and
Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto
them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his
rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the
congregation drank, and their beasts also.
When the Israelites fought with Amalek,
as long as Moses held the rod in the air, the Israelites prevailed.
Exodus 17:9-12 – And Moses said unto
Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will
stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and
fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the
hill. And it came to pass, when Moses
held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek
prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy;
and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and
Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other
side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
With great power, God saved his people
from the Egyptian army. Him alone shall
you worship.
2 Kings 17:36 – But the LORD, who brought
you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him
shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.
Find your rod! Use it with the power of God to defeat the
devil and live God’s Gospel of Love.
To God be the glory in all you do, Amen.
