Your Giant
Bible Matters 248:
Your Giant
In your life,
there is a giant or giants that are keeping you from getting victory in your
life and preventing a relationship with Jesus Christ. God has directed your
life so far and provided blessing after blessing and yet you fail to use the
power of God for victory over your fleshly idol. That one earthly element is
bigger than life itself. This giant is keeping you from the promised land,
promised by God.
Nothing is bigger
than life itself in the Old Testament than the account of Goliath and his power
over Israel. The men of Israel were petrified of Goliath. They were sore
afraid. When you go to fight your giant, man will give you armor and weapons
that are bigger than needed. David did not need heavy armor or a heavy sword.
Use proven tools that can be easily handled. Accept and use the power of God
through God’s Word in your life.
1 Samuel
17:23-26,37-42,45-46,49-50 – And as he talked with them, behold, there came up
the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the
Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the
man, fled from him, and were sore afraid. And the men of Israel said, Have ye
seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it
shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great
riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in
Israel. And David spake to the men that
stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this
Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this
uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living
God? David said moreover, The Lord that
delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he
will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David,
Go, and the Lord be with thee. And Saul
armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also
he armed him with a coat of mail. And
David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not
proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not
proved them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand, and
chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag
which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near
to the Philistine. And the Philistine
came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before
him. And when the Philistine looked
about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and
of a fair countenance. Then said David
to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a
shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the
armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite
thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host
of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts
of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And David put his hand in his bag, and took
thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that
the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a
sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was
no sword in the hand of David.
David prevailed
over Goliath with a single stone. When using the power of God in your life, you
will prevail over your giant. Moses was a faithful servant in the bible. God
directed Moses and the Israel slaves out of Egypt, through the wilderness and
parted the Red Sea where God killed the Egyptian army. God fed the Israels. God
gave them light by night and smoke by day to lead the Israels through the
wilderness. God gave Moses the ten commandments on the top of Mt. Sinai.
Moses sent one
member from each of the twelve tribes of Israel to go into the promised land of
Canaan and check it out. There were giants there. Upon returning to Moses, ten
of the spies convinced Moses that they could never conquer the giants. Caleb
and Joshua had great faith in God and said let’s go. We can take’em. It didn’t
happen. Moses and the ten spies never made it to the promised land. God took
care of the two spies, Caleb and Joshua, that believed on God.
Numbers
13:1-2,25,28,30,32-33 – And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Send thou men,
that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of
Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler
among them. And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are
walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. And
Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and
possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. And they brought up an evil
report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying,
The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the
inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great
stature.
Numbers 26:64-65
– But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest
numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
For the Lord had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there
was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son
of Nun.
Numbers 32:12 –
Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for
they have wholly followed the Lord.
Make sure you do
as God directed. God directed Moses to speak unto the rock to give forth water
for the children of Israel to drink. Instead, Moses smote the rock twice with
his rod. Moses did not due as directed by God. As such, the promise land was a
giant Moses could no longer have.
Numbers
20:5-9,11-12 KJV – And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to
bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of
vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. And Moses and
Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of
the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord
appeared unto them. And the Lord spake
unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou,
and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it
shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the
rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses
took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him. And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his
rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the
congregation drank, and their beasts also.
And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to
sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring
this congregation into the land which I have given them.
When you do as
directed by God, he will reward thee openly. God wants you to come to him.
Hebrews 11:6 –
But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek
him.
You no longer
walk in darkness. No longer following the traditions of man to get victory with
God in your life. God will deliver you out of temptation. You recognize that
God is light and you will no longer live in sin and darkness.
1 John 1:5-10 KJV
– This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you,
that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if
we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we
say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make
him a liar, and his word is not in us.
2 Peter 2:9 – The
Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the
unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
You must decide
today to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Today, decide
that you want to be a Caleb. You’ve seen the promise land. God will deliver, if
you put your trust in him. No longer a sinner abiding in darkness. Be of great faith
in Jesus Christ. With the power of God, you can conquer great giants and serve
the Lord. Giants and sinners of the flesh scare you no more.
2 Peter 3:17-18 –
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also,
being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To
him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
To God be the
Glory in all you do, Amen
