John Gospel of Love
Bible Matters 500: John Gospel of Love
No one summarizes God’s gospel of Love
better than the apostle John. John spoke
of love profusely in both his gospel and epistles. Thirty-nine times love is presented in the
gospel of John. Thirty-two times love is
presented in 1 John, 2 John and 3 John. This
is more than any other witness in the New Testament. When you love your neighbor, then you show
your love of God. When you love God,
then you keep his commandments. John
made God’s commandments clear.
1 John 5:2-4 – By this we know that we
love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his
commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
If
you hate your brother or neighbor, then you have no eternal life abiding in
you.
1
John 3:15 – Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no
murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Let’s
review John’s gospel testimony on God’s gospel of Love.
• Believe in one God – When
you believe in God the Spirit, you believe in the scriptures.
John 1:18 – No man hath seen God at
any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath
declared him.
John 8:47 – He that is of God heareth
God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
John 3:34 – For he whom God hath sent
speaks the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
John 4:23-24 – But the hour cometh,
and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in
truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him
must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that
the world through him might be saved.
John 5:44 – How can ye believe, which
receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?
John 8:54 – Jesus answered, If I honor
myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honors me; of whom ye say,
that he is your God:
John 12:44 – Jesus cried and said, He
that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
• Repent of your sins and surrender to
God – to sin no more. When you commit
sin, you are a servant of sin.
John 3:3 – Jesus answered and said
unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 8:11 – She said, No man, Lord.
And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 8:34 – Jesus answered them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
John 8:50-51 – And I seek not mine own
glory: there is one that seeks and judges.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never
see death.
John 9:31 – Now we know that God
heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will,
him he heareth.
• Judge no one – Judge your pure walk
against God’s word. You are but a single
witness. Man judges to the flesh. God judges you against your righteous walk. (See
John 7:24; John 8:15,17; John 8:50; John 21:21-22)
John 7:24 – Judge not according to the
appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
John 8:50 – And I seek not mine own
glory: there is one that seeks and judges.
• Love God – Pray, do good and turn
from sin. When you love God then your
walk will be your testimony. A walk lead
by the Holy Ghost or the Comforter, who God sends when you heart is right with
God.
John 14:23-26 –
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and
my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with
him. He that loveth me not keepeth not
my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent
me. These things have I spoken unto you,
being yet present with you. But the
Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he
shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
• Love your Neighbor –
John 13:34 – A new commandment I give
unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one
another.
John 15:12-13,17 – This is my
commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a
man lay down his life for his friends. These things I command you, that ye love
one another.
• Do the will of God unto eternal life.
John 3:19-21 – And this is the
condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather
than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hates the light, neither cometh to the
light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made
manifest, that they are wrought in God.
John 8:51 – Verily, verily, I say unto
you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
John 12:25 – He that loveth his life
shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life
eternal.
When you love God, you
follow the Gospel that Jesus brought to this earth. Discard your old sinful life and live your
life for the glory of God. Believe that
God has a plan for you. Have faith and worship
only God. Do not let any man, any church
or any church leader, lead you into believing the Jesus did it all and you do
not have to show your faith by doing God’s will. Do not be deceived. God is looking for you to go live God’s
gospel of Love.
To God be the glory in all you do, Amen.
