Humble

Bible Matters 422: Humble

Your walk with the Lord God, starts today!  You may have been deceived in the past about your relationship with God.  It is not about you believing that you are the best.  It is not about you believing that you are a godly person.   It is not about you believing that you are going to heaven by your beliefs.  It is about humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God and deciding today, that you want to know how to serve God and your fellow man, better.  Endure to the end and look forward to being with God in heaven.

God sent Jesus to reset the Jewish religion.  Jesus could have refused to die on the cross, but he humbled himself to die on the cross per the will of God.  Jesus was obedient even unto his death on the cross.

Matthew 26:42 – He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Philippians 2:5,7-8 – Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Decide today that you want to know the truth in his word.  The previous lesson on God’s word was meant to introduce you a simple lesson on the truth in God’s word out of the mouth of two or three witnesses by using the preponderance of evidence testimony.  It is clear from the truth in God’s word that God wants woman to serve in his ministry, teaching and walking equal with men.  Paul’s testimony of one witness is not the truth.  Let it be known that neither God nor Jesus authored a law that women should be silent at church!   That was the law the Pharisees used of which Paul was party to.

1 Corinthians 14:34 – Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Like me, most of you may have grown up in religion and seeking God’s grace by going to church while being taught that only men should serve on the altar.  Understanding the truth out of the mouth of two or three witnesses can be humbling.  The self-proclaim righteousness of man’s religions are humbled by the truth out of God’s word by two or three witnesses and the preponderance of evidence testimony.  If you are new to God’s truth, then you are likely approaching your walk like the Pharisee.  You pray at church, celebrating the body and blood of Christ and thanking God that you are saved.  You go to church on Sunday and give tithes or donations.  Thanking God that you are not like other individuals that are not at church.  Those individuals don’t believe as you and are lost and going to hell.   Your walk will either be as a Pharisee or a publican.  God is clear by saying that two went into the temple.  You are one or the other.  Believe me, a Pharisee is proud.  He has done his time.  He has been led by man’s religion and is faithful.  He is proud and tells himself, that I am doing God’s will because I am fulfilling the will of the church and the religious laws.  In truth, God wants you to be like the publican.  To be humble, renew your walk with God like as a little child and to ask God how can you serve him better.

Luke 18:10-14 – Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Your walk starts by knowing that God despises self-proclaimed righteousness.

Matthew 23:12-16 – And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.  But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.  Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

Luke 14:11-14 – For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.  Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.  But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:  And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

When you humble yourself before the mighty hand of God, you are but a little child.  Previous self-proclaimed righteousness is lost and you look for the good in all people.  For all are but little children.

Matthew 18:4-5 – Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

When you humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, you recognize your role here on earth following him.  To be sober, diligent and live your life by serving him and neighbor.  To do the will of God per his commandments.

Colossians 3:12-17 – Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.  And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

1 Peter 5:5-9 – Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

James 4:6-10,17 – But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.  Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Start your walk today, by doing good.  Start your walk today by using the talents that God has given you to care for your family, your loved ones and your neighbor.  Look for ways to go beyond your normal daily activity.  Volunteer with fervent acts of charity.  Matthew Ministries can use three or less volunteers daily.  Food pantries and soup kitchens can use your help.  Volunteer to serve at the church nursery or teach at youth Sunday school. Got a bigger group, trying serving a meal at Ronald McDonalds House.  Visit the sick or those at the nursing home.  Share the truth in God’s word to those that are lost, especially those that have been turned off by man’s religion.  Opportunities to serve the less fortunate are endless.  Use the talents that God has given you and you will find God’s will in your life.

Understand God’s word in truth and follow God’s command.   Serve him and your brother and sisters in truth.

To God be the glory in all you do, Amen.
