Bible Matters 442: God and Christ

Using the preponderance of evidence from the testimony of the New Testament witnesses, it is apparent that God the Father is the creator and Jesus Christ is a man sent by God to be a sacrifice for the sins of mankind.  Jesus Christ or Christ is not God the Father.   Christ is the Son of God.  Let’s review the testimony. 

Christ is the Son of God.

2 Corinthians 1:1-3,18 – Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:  Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

Matthew 16:16 – And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God

Matthew 26:63 – But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Mark 1:1 – The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Luke 4:41 – And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

John 6:69 – And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Acts 2:30,36 – Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 4:10 – Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Galatians 1:3 – Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Peter 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 John 5:17-20 –  All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.  We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

God the Father is the true God.  Jesus Christ was sent by God. 

John 8:42 – Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John 11:27 – She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

John 17:3 – And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Jesus Christ was the brother of James, Jude and others.  .

1 Peter 5:10 – But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Jude 1:1,4,21 – Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

James 1:1 – James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

208 times Jesus and God are referred to as two separate beings by all eight witnesses.

Matthew 3:16 – And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

Mark 10:18 – And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

You are to worship and serve only the Creator.

Romans 1:25 – Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Jesus came as a prophet unto the world.  Jesus declared himself to be a prophet.

Mark 6:4 – But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

Luke 4:24 – And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

John 6:14 – Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

Luke 7:16 – And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

Luke 24:19 – And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

Luke 13:33 – Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

Matthew 21:11 – And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

The truth in God’s word is determined out of the mouth of tow or three witnesses.  God the Father is the one true God.  He sent Jesus to spread God’s doctrine of love by doing the will of God.  Regardless as to who you believe Jesus is, God’s will is still the same.  It doesn’t matter if you believe that Jesus is a prophet or the Son of God.  God wants you to repent and turn from sin, to love God and to love your neighbor.  Do this and you shall live!  Share God’s gospel of love and live every day to the love of God.  Keep yourself in the love of God, unto eternal lif.
